Hey Jack, this is pretty cool, and it kinda works. What style are you going for? If you're aiming for a more (adobe) Illustrator vectorized look that would be down the lines of that. If you want to go to a painterly look, you could start to blend the different colour shapes you have blocked in so far.

as for this style i duno if it works but i think it serves as a good painting exercise cus i forces u to not overwork things and generally putting colours and values together. if u use flash or MS paint, those programs can offer similar technique and exercise too and for flash consultant u can reach miss lo at 647 xxx BOOB

For the style, I think you did it fine. I just find the shapes you blocked out near the mouth a little awkward, which makes his mouth look wierd.
